A Jefferson County high school student was taken into custody after he was found in possession of a gun on campus.
Just before noon Wednesday, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a student had a handgun at Clay-Chalkville High School.
The school resource officer quickly took possession of the gun, and the 16-year-old boy was taken into custody.
Sheriff’s spokesman Henry Irby said the student reportedly never took out the weapon or threatened anyone with it
The teen is charged with certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm and receiving stolen property. He is being held in juvenile detention.
The investigation is ongoing.
