17-year-old killed in Fairfield shooting

An overnight shooting in Fairfield left a teen boy dead.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Marquise Jermaine Witherspoon. He was 17 and lived in Bessemer.

The shooting happened at 10:38 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of 67th Street.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Witherspoon was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:21 p.m.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.  No additional details have yet been released.

Witherspoon is the third person killed in Fairfield this year. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 156 homicides, including the three in Fairfield.
