2 dead in overnight shootings including woman killed inside Birmingham bar

Two people died in overnight shootings in Birmingham, including a woman who was shot inside a bar.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Diontranet Tinae Brown, 35, of Birmingham, and Tremayne Javahn Long, 37, of Bessemer.

North Precinct officers received a call of a person shot around 8:50 p.m. Thursday at the 604 Bar and Lounge at 604 Ninth Street North, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Police found Brown unresponsive inside the bar.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service rushed Brown to UAB Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:09 p.m.

“We do not believe this was a random shooting,’’ Fitzgerald said. “It is unclear if the victim was the intended target.”

Long was shot at 12:40 a.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Third Avenue West, according to coroner’s officials.

He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:16 a.m., becoming the fifth homicide victim in the city in seven days.

Fitzgerald said a physical fight took place between two men, which led to the fatal shots fired.

The deadly shootings marked Birmingham’s 116th and 117th homicide this year. Of those, eight have been ruled justifiable and two happened in previous years and died in 2024.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 149 homicides including the 117 in Birmingham.

Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
