2 killed in wrong-way crash on I-271

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio (WJW) – Two people were killed in a late-night wrong-way crash on I-271, according to police.

The crash happened just after midnight on Monday in the lanes at Chagrin Boulevard.

According to a press release from the Pepper Pike Police Department, a 2017 Toyota Tundra had been traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-271 when it collided with a 2024 GMC truck.

One vehicle caught on fire.

Both drivers were transported to Hillcrest Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, according to the release.

The northbound lanes were closed for several hours but have since reopened.

The names of those involved have not yet been released.
