Poquoson Islanders Preview:
Head Coach: Elliott Duty (19th season)
2023 Record: 10-4 (lost to Riverheads 37-7 in Class 2 state semifinals)
Starters Returning: 15 (9 on defense, 6 on offense)
Notable Players: QB Eli Tyndell, TE/FB/DE Ryan Burke, WR Jayson Kell, OL/DL Carter Jones
Poquoson has made it to the state semifinals the last two seasons but came up short in both games. While there’s lots of experience, there’s also some young talent like sophomore OL/DL Carter Jones who already has offers from Delaware, ODU, Liberty and William & Mary. Coach Duty says this years team will have more size in the trenches which should help quarterback Eli Tyndell run that Wing-T offense.
Coach Duty says Poquoson will have a successful season if……”I think if we stay healthy. It’s a marathon. We’ve got to manage carries, we’ve got to manage playing time because the Bay Rivers District is a tough district to play in. Gotta manage the roster and get to the playoffs healthy.”
