Mathews did field a team the last two seasons because of a lack of players. But second year Athletic Director Amy O’Neil made it a priority to try and bring the Blue Devils back to the gridiron. With the help of her administration, athletic boosters, the support of the people in the community and a hungry group of player eager to get on the field, football is back at Mathews High School.
Dustin Mullins is the head coach and he has the task of coaching a team that has never played together and he says all about the future.
“This year is for literally building a foundation, that’s all it is. Whether we win or lose, we’re going to fight to the biter end. I think the stands being filled, the community backing everything that we are trying to do here, the support that we’ve had, the excitement’s gonna be crazy”
