Even Gege Akutami Couldn’t Have Predicted How 8 Jujutsu Kaisen Characters Scored Above Sukuna in Popularity Poll

Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen has been on top of the world, and fans have been in love with the series despite the lackluster ending. The conclusion was blood boiling as the arcs had developed greatly, and Akutami-Sensei did not hesitate in killing the favorite characters that fans had grown attached to.

Nevertheless, the subpar ending did not stop the ardent followers of the dark fantasy series from growing closer to the characters, as they have all emotionally resonated with some and have made them a key reason to watch the show.

Recently, a popularity poll was conducted where the fans cast their valuable vote. This made the mangaka flabbergasted, as they could not believe how 8 characters overshadowed The King of Curses in terms of popularity.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s 4th Popularity Poll Resulted in a Not-so-Surprising Winner

Despite a mediocre ending to Ryomen Sukuna’s reign of terror, Gege Akutami’s JJK had taken the world by storm. The series had its own collection of iconic moments, like The Dishonored One coming out on top in the much-anticipated battle between him and Satoru Gojo, and how he took on the modern sorcerers alone.

Since the commencement of the Culling Games Arc, the manga artist has showcased how Sukuna is a walking calamity and how anyone would not like to get on his bad side. With unmatched strength and killer looks to go with it, the popularity of the character soared to a whole new level.

Well, that’s what everyone believed until the 4th Popularity Poll was conducted. The results were announced in the 39th 2024 issue of Shonen Jump via Reddit, along with the release of Chapter 267. A total of 264,298 votes were cast.

Interestingly, The Dishonored One was only 9th in terms of fame, as he received only 4,022 votes. Even Suguru Geto outclassed him as he was 4th in terms of popularity, receiving 19,156 votes from the fans. However, the Top 3 had a stark difference in votes, where Megumi Fushiguro in the 3rd spot received 28,502 votes; Yuji Itadori secured the 2nd spot with 48,131 votes.

The first spot went to The Honored One, Satoru Gojo, who received a whopping 113,392 votes, which is more than the votes received by the next 5 characters collectively. The results were indeed shocking, especially to Gege Akutami, as they detested the Blindfolded Idiot from the core of their heart.

Gege Akutami Loathes Gojo Saturo From The Beginning

There’s no denying that Gojo is the most popular character, and from season 1 of the anime, he has got fans falling for him, regardless of gender. His childish attitude quickly turns to a cold and cocky sorcerer who has full confidence in his ability, making him come up with one of the coldest lines “I’m the strongest.”

Hence, making him look like a protagonist rather than Itadori. Despite being a fan-favorite character, Akutami-Sensei hates him and does not hesitate to lambast his own character publicly.

They have often tweeted crude comments following the character via CBR, which include statements such as “Something Gojo doesn’t have.. probably a personality” and “Now that Gojo is gone, it’s looking like 2020’s gonna be a good year” reflecting their hate for the character.

Though they have never explicitly mentioned the reason for their hate, they have often ensured to put the character at a disadvantage. This was evident when the manga author took away his greatest strength in Chapter 261 of the manga.

Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Crunchyroll, and the manga can be read on Viz Media.
