Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Dirtiest Secret is a Feature FromSoft Has Neglected So Much It’s Making Every Player’s Life Miserable

Ever since debuting Dark Souls into the video game market, Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware’s reputation among gamers has soared, solidifying the studio as a heavyweight developer in the action-RPG genre. FromSoft’s ability to create dark, challenging worlds full of mysteries has lured millions of gamers who are ready to unravel deep and intricate plots in its games.

The Japanese studio has not only perfected combat in its various games but also given us some of the most unique narratives that challenge interpretation. While it continues to evolve on its iconic formula and prepare for its next release, FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki have never bothered improving the multiplayer aspects of their games, which is causing outrage among players.

Since the release of Demon’s Souls in 2009, FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki have mostly left the multiplayer formula untouched throughout the years. In its last project, Elden Ring, the multiplayer played by the same rules as the previous projects and focussed on quick sessions where players could invade a host or assist them by eliminating bosses and clearing dungeons.

Even though it’s iconic, many players in the community believe that it’s time for the Japanese studio to give it an overhaul and bring it up to modern standards. One of the biggest issues with FromSoftware’s games has been that they lack a dedicated server system, which causes players to have contact connectivity problems and latency issues during co-op and PvP modes.

The matchmaking system in all titles is also quite restrictive as it’s directly tied to the in-game mechanics like weapon or level progression, which makes it a nightmare for friends to connect easily. When you add the constant bugs and glitches, plus spell spammers that can make anyone want to outright delete the game, it gets worse.

It’s high time for FromSoftware and Miyazaki to take a step towards improving the multiplayer in all their games by giving us dedicated servers and fixing all the technical issues that plague gameplay. This will give everyone a smoother and more reliable experience, which gamers have been desperate for.

Will FromSoftware Give Elden Ring More DLCs in The Future?

While various issues continue to plague Elden Ring, there’s no denying the fact that it’s one of the biggest successes of the industry, and its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC set new standards for game expansions. Many gamers expected that Miyazaki and his team would ride on the wave of recent success and bring more expansion to the Souslike game.

Unfortunately, in an interview, Miyazaki confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree is the one and only expansion that’ll ever be created for the game. It’s not surprising, considering the fact that FromSoftware doesn’t push out more than one DLC for its titles.

Shadow of the Erdtree debuted on June 21, 2024, more than two years after the debut of Elden Ring. This was the longest time between a base game and an expansion ever for Miyazaki and his team.

Currently, the studio’s next project still remains shrouded in mystery. While it’s unlikely that we’ll ever see another DLC for Elden Ring, the developers could always surprise us with a full-blown sequel of some kind. Only time will tell what Miyazaki’s plans are for the Souslike franchise.
