A teenager was arrested for bringing a BB gun to school in Waterbury on Tuesday.
Officers responded to Gilmartin Elementary School at 94 Spring Lake Road for a weapons complaint after school staff reported to police that a 14-year-old student was suspected of bringing a firearm onto school grounds, according to Lt. Bessette said officers found a BB gun in the student’s backpack, which was in their locker. The student was taken into custody and charged with brandishing a facsimile firearm, weapon on school grounds and second-degree breach of peace.
“The Waterbury Police Department commends the swift action of school staff in reporting the incident, which helped ensure the safety of students and faculty,” Bessette said in a statement. “The WPD continues to work closely with school administrators to maintain a safe environment for all.”
