Parts of Connecticut can expect patchy frost after midnight Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
This comes as the service warns of sub-freezing temperatures as low as are 30 expected.
This is in Connecticut, Northern Fairfield, Northern Middlesex, Northern New Haven, and Northern New London Counties.
“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the service notes.
While it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 54 on Wednesday, Oct. 16, tonight will see patchy frost after 3 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
On Thursday, expect more patchy frost before 8 a.m., with an otherwise sunny day, and a high near 59. Friday should be a but less chilly, with a high near 63.
According to AccuWeather, an element their long-range meteorologists consider when developing a winter forecast was La Niña.
“This phenomenon occurs when water temperatures near the equator in the eastern Pacific Ocean remain below the historical average for an extended period, which can significantly influence weather patterns across North America, including the trajectory of snowstorms,” according to AccuWeather.
“La Niña will be weak for most of the winter,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist and Long-Range Expert Paul Pastelok said online. “A weaker La Niña can allow other signals to drive the pattern, more variability throughout the winter.”
AccuWeather also notes, “Snow shovels will be needed across the Northeast and Midwest this winter, although they could gather dust during part of the season as the weather patterns play tug-of-war between mild and rainy, and cold and snowy.”
