How To Get the Leave Ending

Silent Hill 2 is the latest horror classic to receive the remake treatment, and the game developers of Bloober Team have successfully captured the tone and ambiance of the creepy and eerie town of Silent Hill. The story follows James Sunderland as he searches for his dead wife and it contains a plethora of alternate endings.

The gaming community is still unsure which ending suits James the best, and the developers got creative and threw in an extra few for the New Game Plus mode. In terms of narrative, the “Leave” ending makes the most sense, and this is how to get it.

Player Actions Can Heavily Influence the Ending of Silent Hill 2 Remake

How To Get the Leave Ending
The developers wanted players to take full control of how the story unfolds.

The game developers realized the significance and cultural impact the original version of Silent Hill 2 had on the gaming community. Bloober Team wanted to honor the original game with a worthy remake that takes full advantage of all the improvements and advancements the industry has achieved today. Players take control of James Sunderland and can dictate how his story will end.

In the creepy and eerie town of Silent Hill, James returns to the cursed city to find someone important. Unfortunately, looking for lost people in a foggy area with threats of all manners can be quite a chore, and players must be mindful of their actions to get a specific ending.

Tip

Players must closely monitor James’ health to get this ending.

The Leave ending involves James leaving the town and facing his past. There are only a handful of requirements to get this ending and most players could unlock this alternate ending without much effort as they progress through the main story. However, there are a few requirements that are worth keeping in mind.

Players should always keep James in the best condition possible. Sustaining any damage could be lethal to this alternate ending, and players should apply whatever medical supplies they have in their inventory. This is an important prerequisite to this Silent Hill 2 ending because it will show that James is eager to keep living and neglecting his health is the complete opposite.

James will carry a photograph of Mary and players should consistently check the picture when they can. Constantly looking at the photo represents James’ will and determination to look for her and his undying fidelity. Before the final boss fight, players will find themselves in a long hallway, and a monologue will be played. Be sure to listen throughout the entire audio log.

The hallway will be dark, and this is where a flashlight comes in handy to help with navigation and exploration. Once the monologue is over, James can walk through the door. James will soon encounter a character named Maria and players should avoid interacting with her as much as possible. Failing to do so will grant players the Maria ending instead.

Players will have to leave Maria in a room and it is best to leave her and let bygones be bygones. Going back will show some form of disloyalty to James’ deceased wife. In the opening scene of the Silent Hill 2 remake, James goes down to a cemetery where he meets Angela. This character has a troubled past and James can pick up her knife. Avoid checking on it to prevent James from having dark thoughts of self-harm.

Leaving, in the end, Is the Best Possible Outcome for James in Silent Hill 2

The town of Silent Hill is a place for self-reflection and redemption.

While James is looking for something he knows deep down is gone, let alone at his own hands, James can leave the town and move on. Mary is dead and James took her life, his journey is about coming to terms with her passing and his role in it. Everything he faced was a twisted figment of his imagination to remind him of his crimes.

The Pyramid Head is the ultimate manifestation of James’ guilt. It will follow and torment him for what he did to his wife, Mary. It is up to players how they interpret James Sunderland, some suggest he is a broken man trying to reconnect with his deceased wife, while others claim he is a madman who killed her in a fit of rage and is looking for an easy way out.

Leaving the town can symbolize James making peace with Mary’s passing and starting anew. Perhaps James will come clean and accept the consequences of his previous actions.

Second chances don’t come around often and players can help James by ensuring his health is always topped off, avoiding interacting with Maria as much as possible, listening to the monologue, avoiding looking at Angela’s knife, and looking at Mary’s photograph.
