Sable Ranch, a 400-acre movie ranch in Santa Clarita, is on the market for $35 million.
With its replica Old West town, turn-of-the-20th-century adobe-brick hacienda and train, the ranch has set the stage for many TV shows, films, commercials and music videos. It has been in the family of owner Derek Hunt since 1969 when his grandfather, Frank Vacek, bought the property, as reported by the New York Times.
Vacek, who died in 2014 at 90, capitalized on the Western theme by opening up his ranch to production crews. It provided a backdrop to Mel Brook’s “Robin Hood: Men in Tights,” the 1980s TV series “The A-Team” and the 2000s FX outlaw biker series “Sons of Anarchy.”
While it suffered damages when a wildfire tore through the area in 2016, Sable Ranch rebounded. It has since appeared in the 2021 Billie Eilish music video for “Happier Than Ever,” the 2023 Christopher Nolan biopic “Oppenheimer,” and the Ben Affleck thriller “The Accountant 2” slated for release in spring 2025.
The ranch is in the Movie Ranch Overlay Zone, making it easy to get permits and set up for film productions of any scale, according to Aaron Kirman of Christie’s International Real Estate Southern California, which holds the listing being marketed to studios, investors and developers .
“In addition to its current use as a film hub, Sable Ranch presents opportunities for future development,” the listing reads.
