Solving the Scales Puzzle in Toluca Prison

One of the most fascinating locations to visit in Silent Hill 2 is Toluca Prison, which has all kinds of puzzles and mysteries to solve and discover. There are several ways to access the different parts and areas of this prison, divided by particularly distinct animal doors.

Solving a puzzle involving weights will unlock these doors. By finding the different weights and combining them on a scale in a specific way, new doors will open, allowing you to explore this massive prison.

Here Are the Initial Steps for Solving the Weights Puzzle in Silent Hill 2

You can find the first necessary object to solve this puzzle in the chapel area of Toluca Prison in Silent Hill 2. You can locate the object in the prison’s main section; this chapel features a ritual table where the weight is waiting.

The heaviest weight, the first of five in this section of the title, awaits your discovery. Navigate to the yard in the main area of the prison to locate the weight scale, which will serve as the primary object in this puzzle, unlocking different and new paths to access.

After removing the cloth covering the scale, you can interact with it to find the starter weight. To unlock the first door, which is the headless serpent door, you need to place the starter weight on the left side and the heaviest weight on the right side of this scale. This will automatically unlock the headless serpent door.

As you continue your search for various weights, the next step is to identify the medium weight. To achieve this, you must solve the puzzle in the witness room.

You can refer to our guide for a quick solution to this puzzle, regardless of the difficulty level. After overloading the generator and deactivating the electric chair to grab the medium weight, you must head to the cell block, specifically the E10 cell.

Once you arrive at that location and break through a wall to reach the other side of the cells, you’ll encounter another wall that needs to be broken within the same cell.

Passing through this wall, you’ll find a room containing the armory key. By entering the armory, you will finally be able to unlock and obtain the hunting rifle.

Continue Exploring the Prison by Unlocking More Doors

Once you return to the courtyard area, you’ll need to place additional weights on the scale to continue your journey through this prison in Silent Hill 2. To proceed through the hornless ox door, place the heaviest weight, the starter, on the left side, and the medium weight on the right side.

This will automatically open the mentioned door. Continue through the ox door, ascend to the second floor, and attempt to obtain the key to block D.

You must visit the second-floor guard room for this key. Once you access block D, you must go to cell D5 and grab a broken key and a note to unlock a new area on the map.

Using this broken key, proceed to block C and reach cell C4. Thanks to the broken key, you can crawl through a hole in the wall in the back of the cell.

Following the path and crawling, you will eventually reach the bathrooms. After defeating some enemies, you will find a hole at the back of the bathroom, where you will discover the heavy weight.

How to Solve the Scales Puzzle in Silent Hill 2

Once you have obtained the heavy weight, you must return to the scale in the courtyard of Toluca Prison in Silent Hill 2. To open the eyeless boar door, you need to place all the weights—namely, the heaviest, heavy, and medium weights—on the right side and the small weight on the left side.

This will automatically unlock the new door. Behind the eyeless boar door, you must look for the key to the upper section of the prison. Once you pass through the boar door, follow the path, crawling through windows and other obstacles, until you reach the area behind the infirmary.

When you have the key to the upper part of that prison section, you must head upstairs. Once you’re up there, head to the warden’s office, and if you type the word “sick” on the typewriter, it will automatically reward you by giving you the light weight. The only door left to unlock is the wingless dove.

This requires placing all weights except the medium on the left. This means the heaviest, heavy, light, and starter weights must be on the left side, while the medium weight remains on the right. Once you access the wingless dove door, you will need to head to the lower levels of the prison.

Finding the Last Weights in Toluca Prison

When you reach the lower part of the prison in Silent Hill 2, you must try to unlock cells F5 and F6, which contain the lightest weight. To reach the buttons that unlock these two specific cells, you need to circle around the prison and head to the back of the upper area in the unnamed room.

In that same place, you will find a hole in the floor that you can crawl into, allowing you to interact with these two buttons and unlock the cells. Now, head to cell F6, where you will finally find the lightest weight. This will automatically trigger a cutscene in the game, but once it ends, you must return to the courtyard area to find the scale.

To swiftly get back to the scale area, head to cell F9, located in the same zone. When you reach that place, you must break the wall and access cell F10, which will have a staircase leading to the main section of the prison, close to the yard. Distribute the weights once more to complete this puzzle and receive the execution lever.

First, on the right side, place the heaviest, medium, and starter weights. On the left side, place the lightest, light, and heavy weights. This will automatically give you the execution lever, which you will need to place in the gallows area to finish solving these puzzles in Silent Hill 2.
