The Beginning After The End Anime Cannot Escape These 5 Flaws That Manhwa Fans Have Already Pointed Out

The Beginning After The End began with a promising start, but it didn’t take too long before the webtoon fell flat on its face. A majority of those who begin reading it barely finish the available chapters. Of course, the lengthy and unexpected hiatuses only create more hurdles for the series.

The manhwa also diverts from the novel in its portrayal of the dark themes that were originally present. While the protagonist, Arthur, goes through plenty of developments, the same cannot be said about the rest of the characters or the overall plot. Fans are concerned that some of the worst failings of The Beginning After The End will be carried over to the upcoming anime adaptation of the series as well.

A Promising Intro with No Backing

The introductory chapters of The Beginning After The End are promising as they introduce a former king who was reborn into a magical world. The twist is that he remembers everything from his past and has the memory and sensibilities of an adult right from his childhood.

However, as Arthur grew, the plot started to become extremely typical. His achievements were no longer surprising, and the developments became mundane.

An Overpowered MC Who Could Have Been Done Better

Arthur is an overpowered MC in The Beginning After The End. But OP characters can be written really well, as seen in Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint or One Punch Man. In The Beginning After The End, however, it does not work out. Arthur doesn’t even hide that he can master things far faster than others. Thus, his new achievements are no longer surprising to readers either.

The School/Academy Arc Disappointed Fans

During the School Arc, Arthur tries his best to hide his powers, but it doesn’t contribute to much growth. His peers think he is weak and then realize just how strong he is, and this formula is repeated over and over again. Thus, it is an extremely cliched part of the webtoon and fans often consider it the weak link of the series.

The Pacing is Extremely Slow in The Beginning After The End

The main concern regarding The Beginning After The End is its extremely slow pacing. The same formula to Arthur quickly learning things and then surprising others with his abilities is repeated over and over again, with no real progression of the plot. Despite there being over 200 chapters at the time of writing this article, Arthur is still in his late teens and has not become an adult yet.

The Side Characters Have No Development

Arthur seems to be the only interesting character in The Beginning After The End. All the other side characters are there merely for the show of it and are quickly tossed aside after their arc or purpose is over. They have little to no impact on the overall webtoon. A damsel in distress character is created in the series who only relies on Arthur despite their own growth.

Overall, there are several complaints about The Beginning After The End that even its hardcore readers can’t deny. However, it is still hailed as a good series overall, and many suggest reading its original novel rather than the webtoon. You can only hope that the anime adaptation of the webtoon is able to surpass the pacing issues and improve the series.

The Beginning After The End webtoon is available to read on Tapas.
