1 dead, 5 injured in 4-vehicle north Alabama crash

A Crossville man died following a four-vehicle crash in DeKalb County Wednesday that injured five people.

Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said the incident happened Wednesday at 2:55 p.m. on Alabama 75 near DeKalb County 24, about five miles south of Geraldine.

Tommy W. Gortney, 51, was driving a 2015 Kia Optima, when it was struck by a 2015 Honda CR-V, driven by Olivia G. Butler, 27, of Rainsville. After the impact, the Kia struck a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Katheryn D, Lipscomb, 33, of Crossville. The kia also struck a 2019 Honda CR-V, driven by Amanda F. Terry, 51, of Rainsville.

Gortney was pronounced dead at the scene. Lipscomb and Terry were both injured and transported to Marshall Medical Center for treatment.

The passenger of the Kia, Malinda B. Gortney, 50, of Crossville, was injured and transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.

Two children who were passengers in the Chevrolet, a 5-year-old and a 1-year-old, were also injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
