Dragon Ball DAIMA May Finally Redeem Akira Toriyama’s Biggest Mistake by Canonising The Best Thing to Come Out of Dragon Ball GT

With only one episode in, Dragon Ball DAIMA is already making a huge buzz online, captivating several viewers with Toei’s commitment to the original narrative and Akira Toriyama’s key contributions before his passing. Despite the mangaka’s tragic demise at the age of 68, Dragon Ball continues to influence generations of kids.

Owing to Dragon Ball‘s immense influence, Akira Toriyama is considered a legend not only in Japan but worldwide. Moreover, with the release of DB DAIMA and Sparking Zero!, the Dragon Ball franchise has once again taken over the digital landscape. Interestingly, fans can expect to see some similarities between DB Daima and DB GT.

DAIMA episode one follows the DB GT‘s footsteps by reverting Goku back into a child. Indeed, it feels like DAIMA is an attempt at a sort of “do-over” for Dragon Ball GT, with slightly tweaked parameters. With Toei dedicated to honoring Akira Toriyama’s legacy through DAIMA, the studio has the chance to revive the legendary SSJ4 from GT with a fresh perspective.

How DAIMA Can Address Toriyama’s Most Notable Criticism

Dragon Ball is arguably the most popular franchise in the community, captivating generations of kids with the iconic Goku and Vegeta rivalry. With Dragon Ball DAIMA making its highly anticipated premiere this Fall, Toei carries forward Toriyama’s lasting legacy, ensuring it lives on forever.

DB DAIMA‘s story will follow Goku as he ventures into the Demon Realm after the Z Fighters are turned into kids, seeking a way to return to their original selves. However, the central premise, where Goku and the rest of DB‘s cast are transformed into children, immediately brings Dragon Ball GT to mind.

Although Dragon Ball GT might not be as renowned as DBZ or DBS, the series is famous for featuring the iconic SSJ4 transformation and thrilling antagonists. Amid the Dragon Ball GT and DAIMA‘s similarities, fans are curious if they could see Toei reviving the iconic SSJ4 transformation which got wasted in DB GT because of the show’s harsh critics.

While the iconic design of the SSJ4 transformation was crafted by renowned character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, it has become an integral part of Akira Toriyama‘s legacy. DAIMA presents the perfect opportunity to honor the legendary mangaka’s contributions.

While there’s been no official confirmation, following the story premise, the return of SSJ4 transformation is highly likely. Now that Goku has been transformed into a kid, he has lost much of his previous power. Back in GT, Goku was also unable to maintain forms beyond the initial SSJ for very long.

DAIMA takes place after the events of the Majin Buu saga, meaning Goku wouldn’t be able to access god-tier transformations like Super Saiyan God or Ultra Instinct. With SSJ3 being Goku’s most powerful transformation, it would make sense to reintroduce SSJ4 if he wants to beat powerful new enemies like Neva’s Tamigami’s in the Demon Realm.

DAIMA is all about celebrating the 40-year legacy of Dragon Ball, which includes reintroducing iconic elements from the series, such as Goku’s Power Pole. Thus, giving Goku SSJ4 would be an exciting way for DAIMA to commemorate all of Dragon Ball’s rich history.

The Most Shocking Dragon Ball Wish That Left Fans Loving Toriyama’s Humor

The seven dragon balls were one of Akira’s unique concepts that captivated many fans to the DB classic. By uniting all seven dragon balls, anyone could summon the Eternal Dragon for a single wish. During young Goku’s early adventures on Earth, Bulma introduced fans to the legend of the seven mystical gems.

Despite holding the power to grant immortality and immense wealth, the first wish was a playful reference to Toriyama’s pervy sense of humor. Surprisingly, the shape-shifting pig Oolong was the first character to make a mischievous wish from Shenron.

He wishes for the world’s most comfortable pair of female underwear, much to the amusement of fans. Regardless, Oolong’s wish highlighted the legendary mangaka’s perviest humor, a major factor that contributed to DB Classic’s massive success.

Dragon Ball is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
