Dragon Ball Daima Should Not Bring Back Goku’s Coolest Super Saiyan Transformation and That is for a Good Reason

Dragon Ball GT may be one of the most controversial sequels in the history of Shonen anime (even more so than Boruto: Naruto Next Generations). However, its main saving grace has always been the introduction of one of Goku’s coolest-looking transformations: Super Saiyan 4. The form is a fan favorite even amongst the hardcore, but since the series where it debuted isn’t really canon, fans don’t see it appearing in Dragon Ball Super.

However, a lot of fans picture Dragon Ball DAIMA as similar to GT, there’s a chance that Super Saiyan 4 might show up in DAIMA when Goku fights against powerful opponents in the Demon realm. When it comes to Dragon Ball, there’s no way the creators will not make a show without introducing new forms, right?

Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball DAIMA is a possibility?!

There’s a theory that is going around in the community that Super Saiyan 4 might be returning with a canon-status in DAIMA. According to Dragon Ball YouTuber @Geekdom101, there’s a character known as Werewolf that fans can see in the main trailer.

If fans look closely into his eyes, the color of those eyeballs and the black strokes underneath them resemble the eyes of Goku’s Super Saiyan 4. So the theory states that the Werewolf character can bite into Goku and that can trigger DAIMA‘s version of Super Saiyan 4. Also, Goku is now a kid in the show and that could make his Super Saiyan 3 weaker than usual. So, in order to defeat the demons in the Demon realm, he’d need a form stronger than that.

Remember, this takes place before Dragon Ball Super, so the concept of God Ki or any of the Super Saiyan God forms won’t be mentioned in Dragon Ball DAIMA. And to stay within the continuity, the new Super Saiyan 4 should only be accessible within the Demon realm or Goku forgets about it through his own Great Ape transformation.

For that to happen, he needs to have a tail. If fans watch the above trailer again, they’ll notice that Neva summons the dragon from the Demon realm, Dragon Balls. So maybe Goku can use those Dragon Balls to wish for his tail to come back and then use it to look at a moon or a bright planet in the sky to transform. However, this form will not be like Super Saiyan 4 and here’s why.

DAIMA may not bring in Super Saiyan 4 as depicted in Dragon Ball GT

Dragon Ball producer Akio Iyoku affirmed to fans in an interview that DAIMA and its story will be different from Dragon Ball GT.

I understand that, looking at Goku being small, you would think of GT. A lot of people are thinking “Maybe Goku is young again like from [GT].” We want to emphasize that this is a whole different story.

The primary concern with incorporating Super Saiyan 4 into DAIMA is the potential disruption to the mainline continuity of Dragon Ball to Super. Given that the form has been completely absent from Super thus far, it’d be puzzling that Goku utilized the form before Battle of Gods. Plus, it seems implausible that Vegeta would never even mention Super Saiyan 4 in passing.

If it’s added in DAIMA, Super Saiyan 4 would be rendered useless in Dragon Ball Super, since Goku can whip up stronger forms like Super Saiyan God and Ultra Instinct, so fans would be quite angry if the writers did that.

However, that doesn’t mean Toei Animation and series creator Akira Toriyama wouldn’t borrow concepts from GT and add their own spin into it. For instance, Toriyama took Broly from the old Dragon Ball Z movies and made him canon to Dragon Ball Super. Similarly, the late author could have taken the concept of Super Saiyan 4 and make his own version of it in DAIMA, thus making it canon somehow. After all, there is a character like Dr. Myuu in the DAIMA trailer.

What’s more, Vegeta is rumored to be finally turning Super Saiyan 3 in Dragon Ball DAIMA. So if he gets a new form, so will Goku. That’s just how the marketing team and toy companies will benefit.

Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball ZDragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball DAIMA are all available to watch on Crunchyroll.
