A gun was fired in an attempted bank robbery in Foothhill Ranch on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 17, officials said, and a search for a robbery suspect was underway.
Deputies said a person tried to rob Chase Bank at 26791 Portola Parkway around noon. As a precaution, nearby Foothill Ranch Elementary School was subsequently placed on lockdown, Orange County Sheriff Sgt. Frank Gonzales said.
A shot was reportedly fired inside the bank, though it was unclear whether the suspect, a security guard or a concealed weapon holder fired the shot, Gonzales said.
The robber fled the scene and a perimeter was set up to help deputies find them.
It was unclear if the person stole anything from the bank.
