Pedestrian dies despite life-saving efforts of bystander following Hamden crash

A pedestrian was killed following a crash in Hamden on Wednesday night despite life-saving efforts by a bystander and first responders.

Officers responded to reports of the crash shortly before 10 p.m. in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Mather Street where a male was found lying in the road, according to Lt. Raymond Quinn of the Hamden Police Department.

Quinn said life-saving efforts were performed by a passing motorist as well as police and members of the Hamden Fire Department. The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim’s name is being withheld until his family can be notified.

According to Quinn, the driver involved remained at the scene and has been cooperative.

A portion of Dixwell Avenue and Mather Street was closed while crews were on scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Hamden Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team.
