Supernatural with its fantasy-filled adventurous storylines quickly became a fan favorite. Along with the show lead actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki also earned a lot of acclaim. There has not been any official announcement regarding a possible season 16 of the show. But the fictional brothers can still return to the Supernatural universe if they follow the idea that the multiverse has for them.

Why the Multiverse Is the Perfect Solution for Sam and Dean’s Return?

A new version of the Winchester brothers exists in Supernatural‘s multiverse, which could be explored if season 16 ever happens. Although the original series ended after 15 seasons in 2020, the show isn’t completely gone. Even though the spinoff series The Winchesters was canceled after just one season, both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are open to returning as Sam and Dean, so there’s a chance the story could continue.

In the later seasons of Supernatural, the idea of a multiverse became important, with God creating different universes to force the brothers to fight each other. Some of these alternate versions of Sam and Dean briefly appeared on the show, like the HunterCorp universe, but one specific version of the brothers might have a bigger role in the future.

The Winchesters spinoff hinted at a new version of Sam and Dean that many people might have missed. The show took place in a different universe where the Winchester family could live peacefully. However, the original Dean from Supernatural traveled back in time and changed things. He helped his parents, John and Mary, meet sooner and gave them early knowledge about the supernatural world.

He also warned them about the demon Azazel and gave them the Colt, a weapon that could save them from tragedy. Because of these changes, Sam and Dean might still be born but would grow up in a very different way from the original show. This opens up the possibility of new versions of the brothers, which could be explored in future stories.

The Real Reason Jensen Ackles Left Smallville

Jensen Ackles left Smallville during Season 4, and his departure is closely linked to his role in Supernatural, which became a significant part of his career. Initially, he had auditioned for the lead role of Clark Kent, but that part ultimately went to Tom Welling. However, the Smallville team recognized Ackles’ talent and brought him in as Jason Teague.

His character started as a charming boyfriend to Lana Lang but later turned into one of the season’s main villains. Many fans felt that Jason’s sudden shift to evil was too abrupt. The actor himself revealed that this change occurred sooner than expected due to his commitment to Supernatural, where he played Dean Winchester. The filming schedules for both shows overlapped, making it difficult for him to continue on Smallville.

As a result, Jason’s storyline had to be wrapped up quickly, leading to his character’s death in the Season 4 finale. Further, Smallville creator Alfred Gough also mentioned that Jason was intended to be a one-season character.

Once Ackles signed on for Supernatural, it became clear that he wouldn’t return. Ultimately, his exit benefited both shows, allowing Supernatural to gain its star while Smallville smoothly continued into Season 5.
