Toyotarou’s New Dragon Ball Manga is a Prequel That Takes us Back to One of the Greatest Early DBZ Vegeta Arcs

2024 is proving to be a big year for Dragon Ball, as the franchise is finally making a big return after so long. The series recently made a comeback to the anime community with Dragon Ball DAIMA, which is certainly living up to the expectations of fans. It already had an arcade game called Dragon Ball Super Divers that was announced in May, and now the franchise is also getting a manga series.

According to recent reports, the upcoming Dragon Ball arcade game is getting a manga adaptation that will be handled by Toyotarou, Akira Toriyama’s protege. The new manga is titled Dragon Ball Super Divers, and its main purpose is to promote the release of the upcoming arcade game.

However, it looks like the manga series might just be more than that. The manga will follow different storylines from all over the Dragon Ball timeline and provide a nostalgic feel to the fans. Among these different storylines, the one that fans will be most excited about is the return of the Saiyans saga, which introduced Vegeta as a menacing antagonist.

A New Addition To The Dragon Ball Franchise

Popular Dragon Ball fan page @DbsHype on X recently reported that the seventh Dragon Ball Z: Data Carddass game by Dimps, Dragon Ball Super Divers, is getting a manga adaptation to hype the release of the game. The upcoming manga series will actually be a one-shot, and it will be created by Toyotarou, the illustrator of Dragon Ball Super.

Toyotarou is the perfect individual to create the one-shot manga series, as he also worked on the manga adaptation of the previous Dragon Ball arcade game. Plus, after Toriyama’s death, it is believed that he will helm the next phase of the franchise and the upcoming stories.

The Dragon Ball Divers one-shot manga series will be 32 pages long and is scheduled to be released in the October 21, 2024 issue of V Jump. Not only that, but it is also rumored to coincide with the release of the arcade game, which makes it even more exciting for the fans. It follows in the footsteps of Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission, which also earned a lot of recognition from fans.

Dragon Ball Divers Will Bring Back One of the Greatest Storylines

Although the contents of the upcoming one-shot manga series and the arcade game are unknown to the fans, recent reports suggest that it will shed light on the famous Vegeta saga, which featured the iconic fight between the Z-Fighters against the Saiyans Vegeta and Nappa. Not only that, it will also have a special storyline for the Saibamens from the Saiyan saga.

The Vegeta saga is one of the most legendary narratives in the entire Dragon Ball franchise. It introduced the character of Vegeta, who is currently the most important character in the entire franchise after Goku. Not only that, it will probably display Vegeta in a villainous role, which is special for many hardcore Vegeta fans.

Toyotarou’s return to the Dragon Ball franchise with the one-shot manga could also be an indication that he is ready to once again work on the incomplete Dragon Ball Super. The series was on an indefinite hiatus after the death of Akira Toriyama. But Dragon Ball Divers might help Toyotarou get back in the game and continue the Dragon Ball Super storyline.
