An outrageous hit on CT residents’ wallets

An outrageous hit on CT residents’ wallets

A message to Governor Lamont:

As a retired person with a chronic disease living on a fixed income, I must tell you that I find it inexcusable that the “Public Benefits” charge on my Eversource bill this month cost me more than the electricity I used, and is more than quintuple what I paid this time last year.

This is an outrageous, unconscionable and unforgivable assault on the wallets of the people of Connecticut, especially retirees, young families, the unemployed and the underemployed.

Anger over massive CT electric bills will drive voter choices on Election Day, GOP says

This increase in the public benefits charges on our utility bills, voted upon and passed by the Connecticut legislature, and signed by the governor, demonstrates an utter disregard for the financial welfare of the vast majority of Connecticut residents, many of whom were struggling already, even before being burdened by these fees.

How dare anyone pretend that they represent the best interests of the hard-working, conscientious people of Connecticut when a handout of this magnitude is rammed down the throats of residents who are already scrimping and saving to pay their own bills.

This is an insulting disgrace to the generous citizens of Connecticut who already donate billions of dollars each year, on their own, to charities of their choice.

Frank O’Neill, Madison
