As the plot thickens, viewers are eager to uncover the twists and turns in the upcoming episodes. Will Rio be a friend or foe? What mysteries will she unpack? With Plaza’s knack for playing weirdly complex characters and emphasis on weird, you can bet there’s more than meets the eye.

The Identity of the Green Witch Revealed!

To truly grasp who Rio is in Agatha All Along, we first need to dive into the series’ biggest twist yet, and that is the identity of the green witch!

When Agatha’s coven was formed, Lilia Calderu penned three names along with a black heart symbol, indicating the witches destined to join Agatha and Billy Maximoff. Among them were Lilia herself, Jennifer Kale, and Alice Wu-Gulliver. For a while, fans speculated that the black heart meant Rio.

But episode 6 turned everything upside down! It turns out that Billy, not Rio, is the coven’s green witch. Proof? The episode teases it with his boyfriend texting him “my heart,” complete with a black heart emoji.

Moreover, if one looks at the bigger picture, things make more sense as it is already known that Lilia cast a sigil on William Kaplan to keep his destiny as Billy Maximoff hidden from other witches. Now, the sigil not only obscures the truth from others but also affects the witch who cast it. That might be why Lilia referred to Billy with a black heart instead of his name, making him the green witch! So, that now raises questions about Rio’s true identity. And this is where things turn interesting!

Who Exactly Is Rio, Aubrey Plaza’s Character in Agatha: All Along?

Aubrey Plaza‘s Rio might just be (most definitely) Lady Death! This theory is currently the hottest topic among fans, and honestly, it seems the most likely too! If you look back, the hints about Rio’s true identity in Agatha: All Along are everywhere.

In episode 4, she mentions that once Agatha eliminates the other witches, she gets their bodies, hinting that she became Lady Death after Nicholas Scratch’s demise.

Agatha’s plea in that very same episode, “Don’t take him,” followed by Rio’s sharp reply, “That boy isn’t yours,” only strengthens the theory. Furthermore, Rio’s absence in episode 6 after Alice’s death only adds to the speculation.

Other than that, interestingly, there’s a comic character, Marlo Chandler, who hosted Death and later took on her role after she retired. While Marlo is different from Rio, there might just be a connection suggesting that Rio could be a human host for Death herself as well.

In the midseason trailer, Rio ominously says, “All roads lead to me,” was a riddle left to solve for the fans, and this episode 6 might just have handed them the key to it! With Billy as the green witch, it’s clear that there is something more hidden in plain sight!

Agatha All Along is streaming on Disney+.
