Dinklage’s character became one of the most loved aspects of the series, which concluded after eight seasons with a finale that easily goes down as one of the biggest fumbles in TV history. However, Dinklage has remained protective of the finale.
During a recent interview, Dinklage spoke about the divisive series finale, which was heavily criticized for rushing the story, unexpected twists, and overall unsatisfactory conclusion to several character arcs. However, Dinklage admitted to loving the finale, which only proves that the actor is a hardcore Lannister to his core, and here is why.
Peter Dinklage Admits He Loves the Game of Thrones Finale
Peter Dinklage has established himself as one of the most prominent actors in Hollywood, appearing in franchises like The Hunger Games and MCU. However, Dinklage’s most popular role remains that of Tyrion Lannister in the HBO fantasy drama Game of Thrones.
Recently, Dinklage spoke with Rolling Stone to promote his Western thriller film The Thicket. During the conversation, the actor was asked about the controversial ending to Game of Thrones. However, Dinklage confessed that he wasn’t dismayed by the ending.
I can’t speak for anybody else’s opinion, and that’s what makes what we do fun, because everybody does have a difference of opinion and everybody gets to write about it and chat about it and drink over it and argue about it. It’s great. I mean, I think it means you’re doing something right.
Dinklage made the above statement, defending the controversial finale, expanding upon his previous comments that the show’s fans who were bitter about the ending simply needed to move on.
The actor explained that he liked the ending and others did not have to agree with him. Moreover, Dinklage felt that the divisive nature of the ending and different opinions over it made the ending work, an opinion most diehard fans would disagree with.
Peter Dinklage Explains Why He Is Proud of Game of Thrones Despite the Finale
In the same conversation, Dinklage also admitted to being proud of the finale and the series overall despite the backlash over its ending. Dinklage stated that he spent nearly a decade on the series, and became close friends with the cast and crew. He said:
There’s no shame in that. There’s only pride. And it was eight seasons.
From Dinklage’s words, it is safe to say that the actor views the show and its conclusion from a very personal lens, which might explain why he loves the ending despite its myriad of shortcomings.
On the other hand, from the audience’s perspective, the ending betrayed them by failing to pay off several promised plot points and unsatisfactory outcomes to character arcs that had them deeply invested.
In that regard, the show’s ending is an abomination as it left viewers dismayed. However, Dinklage defending the ending and refusing to accept its shortcomings proves that he is still the stubborn Lannister at heart he played for eight seasons.
