HARTFORD– Next year, they’ll be husband and wife. On Saturday, they were both winners at the Eversource Hartford Marathon.
Alex Nordstrom and Angie Rafter, both Central Connecticut State grads, won the men’s and women’s races on Saturday morning.
Nordstrom, who grew up in Coventry, won with an unofficial time of 2:17:56, nearly three minutes faster than second-place finisher Grant O’Connor of West Hartford.
Rafter, originally from Killingly, came in at 2:38:09.
Ethan Hermann, 24, of Philadelphia won the half marathon, with a time of 1:05:14.
45-year-old Mario Vazquez of Farmington came in second, crossing the finish line at 1:06:36, within a minute of the United States record for a 45-plus competitor in a half marathon.
Annmarie Tuxbury of New Hartford won the women’s half, finishing with a time of 1:13:22.
Jason Gibbons of Northport, N.Y. won the 5K, finishing with a time of 15:08. West Hartford’s Malcolm Connor finished second, eight seconds behind.
Runners from 14 different countries, all 50 states and 151 Connecticut towns took to the starting line on Saturday.
