Monday is the last day to register to vote in Alabama to participate in the Nov. 5 general election.

State law sets the deadline at 15 days before the election.

Secretary of State Wes Allen, in a reminder posted on the state website, said voters can register online up until 11:59 p.m. Or they can turn in a voter registration form in person at their local board of registrars before the close of business Monday. Voter registration forms that are being mailed in must be postmarked by Monday.

To be eligible to vote in Alabama, one must be a citizen of the United States, reside in Alabama, and be 18 years old on or before election day.

Sample ballots by county can be viewed on the secretary of state website.

Deadlines for absentee voting are coming up. The last day to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is Oct. 29. The last day to apply for an absentee ballot in person is Oct. 31.

The last day to hand-deliver an absentee ballot to the county absentee ballot manager is Nov. 4, the day before the election.

Absentee ballots sent by mail must be postmarked no later than noon on election day.
