Person of interest in fatal Tuskegee shooting of 16-year-old boy found dead in wrecked car

Person of interest in fatal Tuskegee shooting of 16-year-old boy found dead in wrecked car

A 16-year-old boy was killed in a weekend shooting in Tuskegee, and the person of interest was also found dead hours later.

The teen victim was shot about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Interim Police Chief Patrick Mardis said the ordeal began at Josh’s convenience store on East Martin Luther King Highway.

That is the same store where one person was killed and three others injured in a June shooting.

The teen, the chief said, is believed to have been committing a crime outside the store.

The person of interest followed the teen and others in a vehicle and shots were fired. Those in the vehicle with the teen drove him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mardis said the person of interest was found dead about 4 p.m. Sunday in a wrecked car in a ravine in the area of Highway 29 and Highway 53.

The cause of death for the person of interest was not immediately known and is pending an autopsy.

Mardis said all of those involved knew each other.

The chief said multiple law enforcement agencies, including ALEA, are assisting in the investigation.
