Belarra has announced a consultation with the bases, which leaves Podemos’s support for the 2025 Accounts in the hands of its militancy. The formation led by the former Minister of Social Rights demands that the Government sever diplomatic relations with Israel and drastic measures to “tackle” the housing crisis: lower rents by 40% by law, prohibit the purchase of housing that is not intended for residence and the dismantling of companies like Desokupa, dedicated to evicting by force and outside the procedures judicial proceedings against those who illegally occupy a property.

The announcement comes a day after the former vice president of the Government and former leader of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, marked the speech again with a veiled criticism of the federal coordinator of IU, Antonio Maíllo, for reopening the unity debate. Iglesias demanded that the rest of the left-wing space be the one to group around the four Podemos deputies in Congress, who are the ones “capable of twisting Pedro Sánchez’s arm.” The current secretary general thus recovers the initiative and increases the pressure on the coalition Executive. A week ago, his co-spokesperson Javier Sánchez Serna already warned that Podemos had ceased to be a partner of the Executive and would negotiate its support for each of the measures that it brought to Congress.
