Podemos submits to the militancy its conditions to support the Budgets: break with Israel and lower rents by 40% | Spain

After a pressure weekendwith harsh messages sent to the PSOE from the annual Podemos debate forum in which it already advanced its conditions to support the Budgets, its general secretary, Ione Belarra, has taken another step this Monday in the strategy to enforce the four votes of the party in Congress. Belarra has announced a consultation with the bases, which leaves Podemos’s support for the 2025 Accounts in the hands of its militancy. The formation led by the former Minister of Social Rights demands that the Government sever diplomatic relations with Israel and drastic measures to “tackle” the housing crisis: lower rents by 40% by law, prohibit the purchase of housing that is not intended for residence and the dismantling of companies like Desokupa, dedicated to evicting by force and outside the procedures judicial proceedings against those who illegally occupy a property.

With harsh criticism of the “corruption” of the PSOE by the Koldo case Already adrift from the Government, which she accuses of applying “practically the same” policies as the PP, Belarra has indicated that the vote of the party’s registered voters will take place between tomorrow, Tuesday and Sunday, October 27. “I want to ask those registered that Podemos set two conditions to give their favorable vote to the PGE: that we immediately break diplomatic relations with the genocidal State of Israel and that we tackle the housing crisis: by lowering rents by 40% by law, prohibiting the purchase of homes for those who are not going to live in them and dismantling squad commandos like Desokupa,” he stated in a recorded intervention and without the media present, since the party had not called the usual Monday press conference.

The announcement comes a day after the former vice president of the Government and former leader of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, marked the speech again with a veiled criticism of the federal coordinator of IU, Antonio Maíllo, for reopening the unity debate. Iglesias demanded that the rest of the left-wing space be the one to group around the four Podemos deputies in Congress, who are the ones “capable of twisting Pedro Sánchez’s arm.” The current secretary general thus recovers the initiative and increases the pressure on the coalition Executive. A week ago, his co-spokesperson Javier Sánchez Serna already warned that Podemos had ceased to be a partner of the Executive and would negotiate its support for each of the measures that it brought to Congress.
