It has been more than two decades since the singer, dancer, actress, and model Aaliyah passed away in a tragic plane crash. At the prime of her life and career and en route to potentially achieving stardom like no other, everything was cut short by her untimely death.

It was on August 25, 2001, that the world of music and entertainment forever lost one of their brightest gems to a tragic accident. Aaliyah was just 22 when she lost her life in a plane crash. Having started singing at the age of 12, by 22 the actress and singer had accomplished feats that some artists can only dream of in their lifetime.
Following her sudden death, many celebrities from producer Timbaland to Diddy paid their tributes to the late singer, stating they lost a very special person they ever met (see Anglefire and PEOPLE). But recently, an old interview of Beyoncé has gone viral, where she can be seen reacting to the singer’s death (via YouTube).

Having admired Aaliyah for a long time, and having shared a throwback video of her interviewing the Princess of R&B on the red carpet of the 2001 MTV Movie Awards in 2016 (via Instagram), fans in the comments section reckoned that the popstar seemed insincere and ingenuine while talking about Aaliyah.
As the video continues to go viral, conspiracy theories about Beyoncé, Diddy, and Jay-Z having something to do with Aaliyah’s death continue to get more leeway.
What Happened to Aaliyah and How Did She Die?
When it comes to R&B, no other singer has made the impact that Aaliyah has on the genre. Said to have redefined the whole R&B landscape, the singer and actress had the potential to achieve even greater feats, but her life was unfortunately cut short by a plane crash.
Having debuted at the age of 14, she was in the Bahamas filming a music video for her single Rock the Boat, when she was involved in a plane crash that killed everyone in it. A small twin-engine Cessna 402B, it was flown by an uncertified pilot and was apparently 700 pounds overloaded.
Shortly after takeoff, the plane crashed, resulting in the death of all nine people on board (via The New York Times). Per CBS News, the Age is Just a Number singer had severe burns and a blow to the head so bad that even if she had survived, her recovery would have been next to impossible. As many continue to mourn her loss, her legacy and talent continue to inspire many.
