How to Get Rid of the Frenzied Flame

If you searched “How to Get Rid of the Frenzied Flame” and landed here, it means you’ve made the classic mistake that most Elden Ring players did but thankfully realized in time before you locked yourself into a game-changing decision.

Or you’ve already done that, and you’re here to make sure you don’t do it next time. If don’t know, completing the final action of the game with the Frenzied Flame active on your character forces you into an ending that spells doom and chaos for the entire Lands Between.

Unless you want to do that intentionally, you definitely want to get rid of it beforehand. No sweat, just like our other Elden Ring guides, this walkthrough will go into full detail about the Frenzied Flame effect on your character and how to reverse its effects just in time.

What is the Frenzied Flame in Elden Ring?

How to Get Rid of the Frenzied Flame
If a giant hand with Three Fingers touched you, you do not want to touch Fractured Marika yet.

The Elden Ring Frenzied Flame is an effect that your character will receive after making contact with the Three Fingers. We go into more detail about it in our guide to obtaining the Lord of the Frenzied Flame ending, as it’s a requirement.

Many people have accidentally made contact, not knowing it would permanently affect their character.

Unfortunately, even if you’ve done all the requirements for another ending you want, the Frenzied Flame effect will overrule all of it.

That’s why it’s important to have your game setup so that you can get rid of it before completing the last action of the game, i.e., touching Fractured Marika at the base of the Erdtree.

You can do it way in advance too, but this point of the game will be your last chance. Once you touch Fractured Marika with the Frenzied Flame, you’ve sealed the fate of the Lands Between.

Setting up to Reverse the Elden Ring Frenzied Flame

After Millicent’s extremely long questline, you’ll finally get the necessary item for reversing the Frenzied Flame.

It’s easy to hit a few button prompts, talk to the Three Fingers, and get the Elden Ring Frenzied Flame, but it’s not nearly as simple to get rid of it. It requires you to visit a whole bunch of optional areas and defeat some of the most difficult bosses.

Firstly, you need to complete Millicent’s questline. It can be started by visiting Gowry’s Shack in Caelid, on the outskirts of Sellia through the gate guarded by a stone-throwing troll. You’ll find Millicent herself at the Church of Plague, past Sellia’s magically barred gates and up the hill.

Tip

Make sure to exhaust Millicent’s dialogue at every step, or she may not move from her position.

Gowry will ask you to find an Unalloyed Gold Needle to heal Millicent. Defeat Commander O’Neil in the Swamp of Aeonia and return to Gowry. After resting and getting back the Needle, visit Millicent and give her the Needle. Rest at the Site of Grace nearby and exhaust her dialogue.

She will move to Gowry’s Shack. Talk to her again, and then reload the area. She’ll be gone. The next area you’ll find her in is near the Erdtree-Gazing Hill Site of Grace in Altus Plateau, standing atop the cliffs and staring into the lands below.

After talking to her, you need to visit The Shaded Castle dungeon and get the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis (found in a chest guarded by a Cleanrot Knight). Return to Millicent and give her the item.

Now, visit Dominula, Windmill Village. You can summon her for the Godskin Apostle boss here, or fight it alone. Either way, you just need to rest at the Site of Grace here after killing it, and then talk to her.

She will then move to the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins Site of Grace in Mountaintop of the Giants. As always, exhaust her dialogue so that she moves on.

After this, you’ll have to gain access to the Haligtree via Ordina, as Millicent will be at the Prayer Room Site of Grace in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree, next. Exhaust her dialogue.

You must now defeat the Lesser Ulcerated Tree Spirit mini-boss that’s hiding in the pool of Rot near the Drainage Channel Site of Grace as she won’t move until then.

After this, two summon signs pop up near the edge of the lake. You can either invade Millicent and help her invaders, or help her against her invaders. We need the Unalloyed Gold Needle, and for this, you must help her. Choose the golden summoning sign and defeat her enemies.

You will be returned to your world, and Millicent will be near the edge of the Rot pool. Go through all of her dialogue and reload the area to find the Unalloyed Gold Needle. Now, we can move on to the next part of our mission.

You don’t need to beat the Dragonlord Placidusax to use Miquella’s Needle.

Congrats, you’ve finished the longest part of the process. Progressing through Millicent’s quest and gaining access to the Haligtree puts you very close to the next part of our mission: defeating Malenia, Blade of Miquella.

Yes, unfortunately, you’ll need to best this master swordsman as part of reversing the Frenzied Flame. But not to worry, we have an entire guide on how to do it with any of your Elden Ring builds.

Once you defeat her, a Scarlet Aeonia will be left in her arena. You should be able to interact with it to turn your Unalloyed Gold Needle into Miquella’s Needle.

Now, there’s only one part of the reversing process left. You must have progressed the main story path up until the part of accessing Crumbling Farum Azula.

There, you’ll need to hunt down the arena for the optional boss Dragonlord Placidusax. Because of the way Time works in its arena, you will be able to reverse the effects of the Frenzied Flame.

Simply enter the arena, put the needle in your item equipment slot, and use it. You should get a prompt to “tame the Flame of Frenzy.

With that, you know everything necessary regarding how to reverse Frenzied Flame. While the Elden Ring Frenzied Flame reversal process seems lengthy and difficult, it’s well worth it to see one of the other Elden Ring endings where the world isn’t completely doomed.
