Lera Abova is a German and Russian actress and model who made her acting debut with Anna (2019). She played the role of Maude in the 2019 movie alongside Helen Mirren and Cillian Murphy. Besides that, she also appeared in Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin (2022) as Thea. She has established her onscreen presence with her strong roles.
Be it Thea or Maude, Abova showcased her versatility in acting. As an upcoming actress, she is all set to play the role of Nico Robin in One Piece live-action. Apart from her acting projects, Abova has worked as a model.
She has collaborated with brands like Acne Studios, Sportmax. To top it off, she has been featured in Vogue as well. Like most celebs, however, Abova too has her fair share of tragic situations.
Regarding her friend’s ailing sister, Abova shared a story on Instagram. This was further circulated by fans on X.

This, however, isn’t the first time she experienced adversities. In a 2020 documentary Unfamous directed by Yannick Müller, she shared her experiences. From losing her grandmother to growing up in a small village, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for the actress. What’s even more disappointing is that despite her casting, she faced severe criticism.
The One Piece actress isn’t exempt from brutal backlash
To say One Piece is popular would be an understatement considering the series’ cultural impact worldwide. From theme parks to tourist attractions, Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus is a cult anime. It is attributed to his backbreaking efforts to ensure the series’ success.
On top of that, the franchise is soaring heights with its live-action adaptation’s success. Amidst the series’ triumph, however, most fans weren’t happy with the casting. It was made clear through their severe backlash against Abova’s role.
Like Charithra Chandran, Abova received massive hatred from the fans. This is especially due to her casting as Nico Robin. While Chandran is cast for the role of Vivi, Oda himself disputes the racist claims. In a similar vein, fans displayed their foolishness in assuming Nico Robin’s nationality.
The misinformed fans weren’t happy with the actress’ casting as Miss All Sunday. Little do they know the origins of the characters. This move by fans was beyond disappointing considering their half-baked facts. This, however, didn’t deter the actress as she continues to face the challenges head-on.
In a refreshing move, Oda’s support for both actresses is heartwarming. While criticism is necessary, fans should be mindful of the actors as well. Underneath the world of glitz and glam are gargantuan obstacles and adversities that most fans overlook.
