It’s never an easy task to get over the love of your life. Even if it was for an on-screen role. Amy Adams knows that better than any one else. The American Hustle star played the role of Lois Lane, Clark Kent AKA Superman’s love interest in the DC Extended Universe.
The DCEU is a thing of the past. So is her romance with Henry Cavill’s Superman. But as fans prepare to welcome a new Superman to the fold, Amy Adams has made it clear that her loyalties still lie with the Mission: Impossible – Fallout star.
Amy Adams is excited for seeing the new stars take over
When Superman will go to theatres next June, Amy Adams will have a mixed bag of emotions. She is obviously excited for seeing how things pan out. The David Corenswet starrer is the first step in James Gunn & Peter Safran’s reboot of the DC Universe.
A reboot means new faces. And Adams is all excited for seeing how they all fare, especially Rachel Brosnahan, who will be stepping in the shoes of her character, Lois Lane. She told Variety in an interview,
“I love her. She’s gonna be great. Hopefully the role will be infused with her sensibility and her natural humor and strength and wit. I’m really looking forward to it. I really like her.”
That isn’t the only new face in the film. The Twisters star is all set to don the fabled cape in the 2025 film, heralding an onset of a new era. And while it is anybody’s guess that she is more than willing to see the 31-year-old in action, she still can’t help but gloss over the memories of working with Henry Cavill back in the day.
Amy Adams pays homage to Henry Cavill’s Superman
Reminiscing her past, Amy Adams shared how she always had an enduring admiration for The Witcher star’s Superman. She said,
“Henry was a really brilliant Superman. I offer every Superman luck and stuff, but I think he was great. I just wanted to say that. It’s so in his spirit.”
While she herself knew that her days as Lois Lane were numbered in the aftermath of Justice League, it took her some time to wrap her head around the fact that Cavill’s journey was also at an end. It was only a month after he promised to return to the franchise after a cameo in Black Adam, it came to light that a reboot of the DCEU was in the works.
The inevitable would be confirmed soon enough, with Corenswet being announced as a successor. While the Affairs of State star’s first look in the role received a flurry of positive responses, some fans will still be hard pressed to move on from the Enola Holmes star’s character.
Amy Adams is no different. But she knows that is how it is supposed to be. She said,
“Coming from theater, a role never belongs to you. You just do a take on it. That’s how I feel about that franchise.”
In a franchise that can last for years, it is only natural that the stars can’t band together for eternity. The cape must be handed over after all.
