A man who was allegedly clocked going more than 130 mph on Interstate 91 in Windsor on Sunday was arrested after he took off from a state trooper.
The driver was first spotted at 4:51 p.m. Sunday as a trooper was conducting speed enforcement on I-91 South in the area of Exit 38, according to Connecticut State Police.
State police allege that a blue sedan was initially clocked at 98 mph in the HOV lane before the driver was seen moving “unsafely” into the southbound lanes where he rapidly accelerated. The driver then passed the trooper who was in a grassy gore. State police said the trooper could see a male in the driver seat and a female passenger.
When the trooper caught up to the vehicle, which was identified as a blue Nissan Altima, the car was allegedly clocked at 133 mph in a 65 mph zone, according to state police. The trooper switched on the cruiser’s lights and sirens in an attempt to pull the Nissan over, but state police allege that the driver sped up and cut across the HOV divider and the southbound lanes, nearly striking other vehicles.
The trooper abandoned any pursuit efforts out of safety concerns and could see the vehicle get off I-91 using Exit 34, according to state police. The driver then allegedly blew through a red light and a stop sign.
Troopers went to the home where the Nissan was registered and spotted the vehicle pulling into a common driveway. State police pulled in front of the vehicle to stop the driver from taking off.
The driver was identified as 25-year-old Jordan Hamilton of Hartford, according to state police.
State police said Hamilton allegedly admitted to taking off when a trooper tried to pull him over. He was arrested on charges of operating under suspension, operating to endanger a motor vehicle occupant, reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, improper passing, failure to maintain lane on a limited access highway, improper turning/signaling, failure to obey a control signal, failure to obey a stop sign and second-degree reckless endangerment.
Hamilton was released on a $10,000 bond and is expected to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Nov. 13.
