Jefferson County man in custody after Clanton bank robbery, police chase

A Jefferson County man is behind bars following a morning bank robbery in Chilton County.

Police officers responded at 9:20 a.m. to a report of an armed robbery at River Bank & Trust on Seventh Street South in Clanton.

The caller told police the bank had been robbed by a man driving a white Dodge Charger with no tag.

Officers began checking the area for a matching vehicle and located it on Interstate 65 near the 212 exit.

Clanton police officers, Chilton County sheriff’s deputies and ALEA state troopers tried to stop the car, but the driver refused, and a pursuit ensued.

Authorities said the driver was eventually stopped using law enforcement vehicles.

Michael Jimenez, 32, is charged with first-degree robbery. He is being held in the Chilton County Jail.

“Many times, the information that we receive is not relayed in time for this type of an outcome,’’ Clanton police said in a statement.

”The swift and accurate action of the bank employees enabled the rapid apprehension of the suspect.”
