As an 86-year-old, first generation American, U.S. Navy veteran who registers as independent, this election is the most important in my lifetime.
Putting political party aside and focusing only on the candidates, the information about them could not be more confusing. One side is saying that Harris is a socialist, a communist and crazy. On the other side Trump, the candidate himself tells us that he wants to destroy our constitution, be a dictator, get rid of democratic governmental bureaucracies and take total control. He reportedly admires Hitler, Putin and North Korea. His people say he really doesn’t mean those things.
This next election is based on information, some which is false, hateful and harmful. In prior years there wasn’t much difference between candidates so the choice didn’t matter. What baffles me this time is the clear and significant difference between democracy and autocracy. How could this race be so close?
In 2016, I wrote a letter to editor describing Trump as a snake oil salesman. Today he is much more dangerous since he will be surrounding himself with a staff and a powerful army to support his narcissistic meanderings. God help us.
