Motorcyclist killed after collided into back of vehicle on Route 72

A motorcyclist died after colliding with a vehicle and a guardrail on Route 72 in Plainville on Thursday afternoon.

Troopers responded to a crash between a motor vehicle and a motorcycle on Route 72 East around 12:14 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Connecticut State Police.

A Toyota Prius was traveling in the left lane on Route 72 East in the area of Exit 4A when the vehicle was struck from behind by a CFMoto 650 motorcycle for an unknown reason, state police said.

According to state police, the motorcycle then veered into the left shoulder and struck a metal beam guardrail, ejecting the rider, identified as 23-year-old Peter Bienasz of Plainville.

Bienasz was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

The Toyota driver, a 46-year-old man from New Britain, and the passenger, a 39-year-old woman from New Britain, told troopers they were not injured and declined medical treatment at the scene, according to state police.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has a vehicle equipped with a dashboard camera that was driving through the area at the time of the collision is asked to contact Trooper Michael Dean at Troop H at 860-534-1098 or by email at [email protected].
