Mixed and cold weather for the weekend the passage of a front associated with a storm between Friday and Saturday and by the subsequent formation of a dana (isolated depression at high levels). “Between both factors, there will be rain in wide swathes of the country, which will be strong and persistent, especially in parts of the north and east of the peninsula, and with snowfall in the mountains. Besides, temperatures will drop significantly” and they will be more typical of winter, advances Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Next week will begin under the influence of Dana, so instability will continue, with rain and showers, especially in the east of the peninsula.
⛈️On Friday, a front will leave rainfall in large areas of Spain.
Over the next few days, a dana will approach our surroundings, with much uncertainty still about its final position. Right now, the eastern part of the peninsula would be the area that would receive the most rain. pic.twitter.com/PMaKguB5T3— AEMET (@AEMET_Esp) October 24, 2024
“October will say goodbye with rainfall and we can already affirm that it is a rainier month than usual. Until the 22nd of this month, 91 liters per square meter had fallen on the peninsula as a whole, when the normal rate is 52 liters, it has rained 75% more than usual,” Del Campo details.
This Friday, the passage of a frontal system associated with an Atlantic storm will leave “widely distributed rain and stormy showers, which may be locally strong and persistent in the central north and east of the Peninsula.” The other meteorological protagonist of the day will be “the drop in temperatures, which will be notable in a good part of the west of the territory”, where temperatures could be up to 6° or 8° lower than the previous day. Hand in hand with the thermal decrease, there will also be a drop in the snow level, which will be around 1,200 to 1,500 meters in the mountains of the northwest of the Peninsula.
On Saturday, the front will finish sweeping the territory, with “abundant rains in the north of Aragon, in Catalonia, in the Levante area and in the Balearic Islands.” Meanwhile, a dana will form, leading to showers in large areas, with snowfall again in the mountains above 1,200 to 1,600 meters.
“It will be a distinctly cold day for this time of year. Daytime temperatures will be between 5° and 10° below normal temperatures for the season in much of the interior. Cities like Ávila or Soria will not even reach the maximum of 10°, but Madrid will barely reach, for example, 13°, a figure similar to what will be reached in many cities on the plateau that will remain below 15°,” points out the expert.
On Sunday, Spain will continue under the influence of dana and “there will be rain in a good part of the territory, with the heaviest accumulated in the north, the center, the Cantabrian Sea and the northeast.” In addition, snow will fall again from about 1,600 meters on a day in which temperatures will recover in the west, but “still with a generally cold atmosphere for the season, especially in the eastern half of the Peninsula.” For example, Cuenca and Albacete will be around 10° or 12° at noon.
Friday and weekend prediction:
☔️Very unstable atmosphere throughout the country that will lead to showers that will be of greater accumulation and intensity in the Balearic Islands and the northeast quadrant of the peninsula.

On Monday, it’s not so clear. As of today, it seems that “the weather will continue to be marked by the influence of the dana, but it is difficult to specify the areas with the most rainfall because this depends on the location of the dana and is not yet very clear,” indicates the Aemet spokesperson. .
In principle, the areas with the greatest rainfall “will be those located to the east of the peninsular territory and perhaps also points in the south of Andalusia.” Temperatures will not suffer major changes. Starting on Tuesday and during the following days, it is likely that the rains will continue in a good part of the country, especially in the center and east of the Peninsula and in the Balearic Islands. Thermometers will recover.
In the Canary Islands, a rainy weekend and Monday are also expected, especially in the north of the islands, where rainfall can reach moderate intensity. It is possible that some drizzle will fall on other slopes. Temperatures will be somewhat cooler starting Saturday, with maximums of between 22° and 24° in coastal areas.
If everything continues as the weather models predict over the next 5 days, this DANA, due to its characteristics and behavior, has a lot of potential to enter the group of high impact ones.
