An argument across the street from Legion Field led to gunfire Friday afternoon.
One man suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and another man is custody.
The shooting happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Eighth Avenue West where many are gathered for Magic City Classic festivities.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said a man bought some kind of electronic from an out-of-town vendor and paid for them with counterfeit money. When the vendor realized the money was fake, he retrieved the item, and a physical fight erupted between the two men.
The suspect, Wade said, then shot the vendor.
Officers were in the area and quickly responded, taking the suspect into custody.
The wounded vendor was taken to UAB Hospital and is expected to be OK.
