Bruno Mars, whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez, grew up surrounded by music, but he didn’t become famous overnight. According to The Revolver Club, when Mars was only three years old, he began impersonating Elvis Presley, encouraged by his uncle, who was also an Elvis Presley impersonator.

His parents, Bernadette San Pedro Bayot, a gifted hula dancer and vocalist, and Peter Hernandez, a Latin percussionist, established a family band called The Love Notes. Mars frequently stole the stage as they did a variety of entertaining acts, such as medleys and impersonations. He added songs from other musical icons, such as Michael Jackson and The Temptations, to his repertoire as he grew older. By the time he was seven years old, little Bruno Mars even appeared as Little Elvis in the film Honeymoon in Vegas.

Bruno Mars’ rise to stardom

Bruno Mars relocated to Los Angeles in 2003 to follow his aspirations, and he made a name for himself in 2010. His breakthrough came when he provided vocals to two major hits, Travie McCoy’s Billionaire and B.o.B.’s Nothin’ on You. These songs opened doors to stardom for Mars.

With more than 130 million records sold globally, Mars went on to become one of the best-selling musicians of all time.

Remarkably, this enormous accomplishment was achieved with only three solo albums and one joint venture. He won seven Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for his 2016 album 24K Magic, but it wasn’t simply his record sales that set him apart. An Evening with Silk Sonic, his collaboration album with Anderson Paak, also took home four Grammys.

On top of all this success, Bruno Mars has three Guinness Book of World Records under his belt.
