Kaden Gooden won’t be far from home when he plays at the next level.
The Weaver High School athlete announced his commitment to in-county program Jacksonville State on Thursday, following Jax State’s 42-20 blowout of Middle Tennessee State the day before.
Gooden, who committed to play safety at Jax State and also plays quarterback at Weaver, picked the Gamecocks over offers that include Marshall and Culver-Stockton.
The two-way player was named a second-team all-state defensive back in Class 3A last season.
He’ll join a 2025 recruiting class that also includes in-state defensive back Jamarion Bennett from Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, along with Hoover tight end Christopher Warren, Jackson offensive lineman Markevian Blake and Lovejoy (Ga.) defensive lineman Antoniyo Smith.
Weaver will travel to Westbrook Christian on Friday.
