Man shot in Bessemer spoke to officers in his dying moments, police say

A Thursday night shooting in Bessemer left one man dead.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Tavares Deone Moore. He was 44 and lived in Bessemer.

The shooting happened at 8:56 p.m. in the 2900 block of Ninth Avenue North.

Moore was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham where he was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m.

Bessemer police Det. Justin Burmeister said Moore was shot multiple times but was able to talk briefly with officers before he died.

No arrests have yet been made, but the suspect and the victim knew each other and police have leads on the identity of the suspect.

Moore is Bessemer’s 11th homicide this year.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 166 homicides, including the 11 in Bessemer.
