Suspect sought in deadly shooting of 44-year-old man in Bessemer

A suspect has been charged and is sought in the overnight shooting death of a 44-year-old man in Bessemer.

Kalil Judkins, 20, is charged with murder in the Thursday night slaying of Tavares Deone Moore.

The shooting happened at 8:56 p.m. in the 2900 block of Ninth Avenue North.

Moore was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham where he was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m.

Bessemer police Det. Justin Burmeister said Moore was shot multiple times but was able to talk briefly with officers before he died.

Investigators on Friday obtained the murder warrant for Judkins and are actively searching for him.

Burmeister said a motive has not yet been determined.

Moore is Bessemer’s 11th homicide this year.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 166 homicides, including the 11 in Bessemer.
