Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa eligible to play again on Sunday

The Miami Dolphins have cleared all the procedural hurdles to have Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback for the first time in six weeks on Sunday.

On Saturday, the NFL team announced Tagovailoa had been restored to the Dolphins’ 53-man active roster from injured reserve, making him eligible to play against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Miami placed Tagovailoa on injured reserve on Sept. 17, five days after he left the Dolphins’ 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills because of a concussion.

On Friday, Miami coach Mike McDaniel announced Tagovailoa had been released from the NFL’s concussion protocol by the team physician and an independent neurologist after practicing with his teammates this week. That left Tagovailoa’s injured-reserve designation as the only barrier to his return.

To create a roster spot for Tagovailoa, the Dolphins released quarterback Tim Boyle.

Without Tagovailoa, Miami used three quarterbacks and scored three touchdowns in winning one of the four games that the former Alabama All-American had to sit out.

The Dolphins and Cardinals will square off at noon CDT Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Arizona has a 3-4 record. Miami is 2-4.
