Metaphor: ReFantazio – How to Beat Captain Klinger Boss Guide
This boss fight can be overwhelming if you don’t know how to approach it.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Captain Klinger can be found in the Nord mines during the prologue of the game. You’ll encounter him as part of the main quest, so you can’t exactly skip him to save time.

He’s a level-five boss, and will put your skills to the test, however limited they may be at the time. Not to worry, you can breeze through him pretty quickly if you know how to approach him and his annoying lackeys.

The game sets you up with the necessary tools to defeat Captain Klinger.

Since we’re still in the prologue and the game is still acclimating you with its endless number of features and mechanics (other Persona games might’ve prepared you for this), there’s not much you can do to ‘prepare‘ for this battle besides have the right Archetypes and a plan.

The Captain Klinger best party that we’d recommend are the characters that you’ve partied up with till now.

In fact, at this point in the game, one of your party members will unlock their Archetype in this fight and be able to lend you a hand.

Suggested Party

CharacterExplanation
The ProtagonistAt this point, they only have the Seeker Archetype. Use Cyc for damage and Dei to heal.
StrohlDuring this fight, Strohl will awaken the Warrior Archetype, which you can use in battle henceforth. Not only does he get a useful attack, but he’s resistant to Fire Damage, which is what Captain Klinger relies on.

Captain Klinger has some nasty fire-based attacks, but you should have exactly what you need to tank them.

This fight might seem difficult at first, but once you commit to this strategy, you’ll find that it’s no more difficult than fighting one of the common enemies you’ve come across earlier in the game.

Optional:No
Weak to:No known weaknesses
Best Archetypes to Equip:Warrior (Strohl), Seeker (Protagonist)
Difficulty:3/10
How to Cheese Captain Klinger:There’s not really any way of cheesing this boss except fighting him strategically.
Rewards:150 EXP, 187 A-EXP, 450 MAG, 600 Money, Captain’s Uniform
Worth the Trouble:Yes

The secret behind how to kill Captain Klinger rests in this one strategy: get rid of his Mage Soldiers first! These enemies will cast Mage Shield, buffing Klinger’s defense and making him harder to kill.

For this reason, we recommend you focus your attacks on them and deal with them as quickly as possible. Strohl can use Diagonal Slash to deal damage while The Protagonist uses Cyc.

Tip

Try to hold off on healing until the Soldiers are down, as Mage Shield is incredibly annoying to deal with.

Once the Mage Soldiers are gone, Captain Klinger is going to start a vicious offense strategy and use a lot of fire-based attacks. Strohl’s Warrior Archetype becomes incredibly helpful here, as it’s very resistant to Klinger’s Mage Fire.

You want to keep attacking Klinger with your party members until Klinger starts preparing to use Mage Flames. Make sure you Guard to avoid taking life-threatening damage when this happens.

Following this strategy, Captain Klinger should eventually fall in defeat. Congratulations! You’ve just defeated one of Metaphor: ReFantazio‘s bosses.
