This is a quick guide on how to beat Monk Captain Gideaux in Metaphor: ReFantazio. This is not an optional boss, and players may have a tough time figuring out the best course of action against him; however, this guide will cover the party members, which archetypes, and skills to use.
The game developers did not hold back in designing the combat mechanics of this new project. The turn-based combat system is something not many modern games have nowadays; however, there are perks to this system that encourage players to keep their composure while evoking critical thinking, strategy, and planning.
Where Can You Find Monk Captain Gideaux?
The Protagonist and the party can find Monk Captain Gideaux at the Gauntlet Room as part of the Apprehend the Kidnapper quest. Studio Zero designed the United Kingdom of Euchronia to be vast and detailed full of smaller towns, major cities, and infested dungeons for Metaphor: ReFantazio players to visit and clear.
This is one of the more confusing boss battles since the main threat is not Monk Captain Gideaux, but his little minions standing between him and the party. Players should have the right Archetypes, party members, and weapons in their loadout before starting a fight.

How to Prepare to Fight Monk Captain Gideaux?
The boss battle is not as simple as one might suspect. Players can’t physically or magically harm Monk Captain Gideaux because he is blessed with the King’s Magic making him immune to all threats. The party must shift their efforts to defeat the smaller minions guarding the boss instead.
Tip
New players should avoid attacks that can harm all nearby enemies for this fight and focus on the smaller minions.
Players can hurt the monks, one of which is a mage, and the other wields a spear. The mage monk is susceptible to physical attacks and the Warrior archetype can come in handy for this encounter while the monk with the spear can be defeated with wind attacks like Cyclo and Cyc.

How to Beat Monk Captain Gideaux?
You probably went into the fight thinking Monk Captain Gideaux would be the main target but would be caught off guard realizing the smaller monks were the actual bosses. The party will have no choice but to fight to progress the story and it is not that hard compared to other mid-game boss battles.

Players should equip the Warrior archetype for Strohl and use him to handle the mage monk while the Protagonist can fight against the monk with the spear with magic attacks. Metaphor: ReFantazio encourages players to be attentive and listen to in-game mechanics. Hulkenburg can keep the main boss at bay with their archetype and protect the entire group.
After defeating the two smaller monks, a cutscene will play and the boss battle will be over. There are no drops or rewards after this fight which is a shame for players who spent resources prepping for this fight and who used healing items.
Monk Captain Gideaux is impenetrable thanks to the blessing of the King’s Magic and there is no way around it. Rather than wasting effort to try everything, players should focus on hurting the minions, and the results are much more positive.
