More record temperatures in Alabama on Saturday

Several Alabama cities had record high temperatures again on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures across the southern half of the state were still very warm on Saturday, leading to several records falling.

Mobile had one of the oldest records fall today. The National Weather Service in Mobile said Mobile hit 90 degrees this afternoon, breaking the old record of 87 degrees set all the way back in 1936.

Huntsville hit 86 degrees, tying the record for Oct. 26, which had stood even longer — since 1927.

Other areas in the state had warm temperatures that fell a few degrees short of record territory.

Some other high temperatures from Saturday:

* Anniston: 86 degrees (record was 88 in 1963)

* Birmingham: 86 degrees (record was 88 in 1963)

* Dothan: 89 degrees (record was 90 in 2010)

* Montgomery: 88 degrees (record was 90 in 2010)

* Muscle Shoals: 81 degrees (record was 89 in 1931)

* Tuscaloosa: 87 degrees (record was 89 in 2010)

Slightly lower temperatures are expected on Sunday in northern Alabama after a cold front moves through. There will also be a low chance for a shower or two in that region, though most everyone will stay on the dry side.

More mid- to upper 80s will again be possible for parts of south and south-central Alabama on Sunday, according to weather service forecasts (see the map at the top of this post).

More above-average temperatures will be possible through next week, and beyond. Here is the six- to 10-day temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center, which shows a high probability of above-average highs through the first few days of November:
