Tobirama Senju has done great service to the meme community by being who he is, a racist! But even beyond that distinctive personality trait, he was one of the strongest characters in Naruto. His strength and skills make it difficult for anyone to match his prominence or glory. However, there’s one character in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime who is right up in Tobirama’s league with her personality.Â
This character is none other than Senjumaru Shutara of Squad Zero. While Tite Kubo couldn’t explore the Royal Guards as properly, the Thousand-Year Blood War anime gave them more screen time. Senjumaru, being one of them, got her big fight scene against Uryu, which showed us her powers and personality. Beyond her beauty and flashy techniques, she feels strongly about the Quincies, which is reminiscent of Tobirama’s special feelings for the Uchiha.Â
Senjumaru is Tobirama’s Soul Sister!Â
As a part of the Royal Guards, Senjumaru Shutara was an authoritative figure in Bleach. Similarly, Tobirama Senju was the Hokage and enjoyed the same, or even greater prominence, in Naruto. Both characters share many similarities such as their cold personalities or how they are known for being the ‘creators’. Tobirama created many techniques which he was known for, even years after his passing. Senjumaru was the craftsperson behind the iconic Shihakusho of the Soul Reapers.
While the specific powers of the Shihakusho were not mentioned, they were believed to be an extension of the soul of whoever put them on. So, in that sense, both of them had created something integral to their respective worlds. All these parallels can be drawn between many characters, but what makes Tobirama and Senjumaru seem identical is their hatred towards specific factions in their worlds.
In Tobirama’s case, it was the Uchiha Clan, and for Senjumaru, the Quincies. We didn’t get much information on why Senjumaru felt so strongly against the Quincies, she made her feelings extremely clear during her brief spar with Uryu and the other SternRitters. This makes one thing clear that Tobirama was more sensible with his feelings than Senjumaru.Â
The Key Difference Between the Hatred Felt by Both CharactersÂ
Tobirama Senju is known among fans for hating the Uchiha Clan. However, what was interpreted as pure hate, was a realistic grasp on his world by Tobirama. He acknowledged the powers of the Uchiha as he grew up close to someone like Madara. He knew that their emotions were the key behind their powers, and if something threatened the Uchiha and triggered them in turn, they had the power to destroy Konoha.
For this reason, he was always cautious of them and tried to accommodate them in a way that prevented any potential coup from the clan. While that might villainous in itself, Tobirama made an honest attempt to include the Uchiha. On the other hand, Senjumaru’s feelings were more spiteful and petty. While facing Uryu, she nearly said that she was glad about the Soul King’s treatment of the Quincies.
While her hatred could very well be directed at Yhwach who is evil and conceited, her phrasing made it seem like a blunt rejection of the Quincies and their life experiences. From an analytical perspective, Tobirama’s feelings were more empathetic and rational and would hardly be classified as hate. So, Senjumaru might be the embodiment of everything fans believe Tobirama to be!Â
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is available to stream on Netflix and Naruto is available on Crunchyroll.Â
