Amy Adams is a Real One for Her ‘Nightbitch’ Movie Remark That Most Hollywood Star Would Avoid: ‘I invite criticism’

It’s not uncommon for actors to be critical of their work, especially with the benefit of hindsight. However, oftentimes, actors avoid these issues during the project’s release window for obvious reasons. But Amy Adams isn’t shying away from delving into this discussion about her new film, Nightbitch, which is set to hit theatres this December.

With the Marielle Heller-led film opening to mixed critical reception during its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Adams expressed that she is open to the critical debate regarding her new outing.

Given the premise of Nightbitch, which follows a suburban, stay-at-home mom, who turns into a feral beast in the face of extreme pressure, the Amy Adams-led flick has caused quite a stir on the internet.

While early reactions to the film have been quite mixed, with some commending it for its feminist allegory, Adams expressed that she’s open to the critical reception of the film, adding “I invite criticism”.

I invite criticism. It’s part of a conversation and I think films that create conversation are really important to have.

Even though the actress’ main goal with the film was to speak with viewers, who would resonate with the story’s theme, Adams isn’t running away from acknowledging its potential flaws, which isn’t pretty common in showbiz.

Being a mother herself, the Man of Steel star resonated with the film’s commentary on the difficulties of motherhood. While Adams wasn’t pushed to embrace her feral beast like her Nightbitch counterpart, it redirected the actress’ priorities in life.

Motherhood did redirect my priorities. And I think that changed some relationships. That was hard, but I don’t think it’s uncommon.

Although she was aware that this film could be polarizing, given the wild concept of the story, considering it delves into “different ancestral wounds”, the actress will be glad if it hits the target audience.

It could be polarizing. I’m kind of like, ‘If you know, you know!’ It deals with friendship, community, relationships, motherhood, parenthood. It hits on a lot of different ancestral wounds. So if it hits you, that’ll make me really happy.

Moreover, with the award chatters surrounding her performance, which is unsurprising given her acting prowess, Adams is grateful that it’s garnering traction to releases, which, otherwise. might’ve been lost in the shuffle.

Nightbitch will hit theatres on 6 December 2024.
