Finebaum deems Alabama-LSU game a ‘playoff eliminator’

Buckle up, Alabama fans.

It doesn’t looks like there will be a bigger game on the schedule than when the Crimson Tide meets LSU on Nov. 9, according to Paul Finebaum.

The SEC Network analyst has dubbed the SEC showdown as a “playoff eliminator.”

“What (Alabama) got out of the (Missouri) game more than anything else is just some confidence into the bye week as they get ready for yet another playoff eliminator,” Finebaum said on the Matt Barrie Show. “We saw one yesterday with Missouri and the LSU-Alabama game … it may not be the marquee game of 2 weeks from now because there’s another game that’s more important in terms of drama, but it’s the first playoff eliminator game we’ve had.”

While Finebaum didn’t make any prediction on the game, LSU’s 38-23 loss to Texas A&M on Saturday has shaped an opinion.

“I was so high on them against Alabama, but now I feel the wind shifting back to Alabama right now,” he said.

Quarterback Marcel Reed came off the bench to run for three second-half touchdowns and No. 14 Texas A&M beat eighth-ranked LSU to become the only team undefeated in SEC play. The Aggies (7-1, 5-0) picked off three of Garrett Nussmeier’s passes after halftime to get their seventh straight victory since a loss to Notre Dame in the opener.

LSU (6-2, 3-1) led by 10 in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, Jam Miller rushed for two touchdowns and No. 15 Alabama’s defense had three interceptions in a 34-0 victory over No. 21 Missouri, which played much of the way without starting quarterback Brady Cook.
