‘He didn’t care if I was a plumber’ on Clint Eastwood’s Only Advice as a Strict Dad Growing Up

Scott Eastwood, the son of legendary actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, has carved his own path in Hollywood. But he always stated that his father’s influence went beyond the glitz and glamor of the entertainment industry.

Although the 38-year-old went on to follow in his father’s footsteps, he revealed that his father never pushed him to do it. In fact, the 94-year-old could not have cared less about what his son did as long as he was happy and doing a good job.

While the younger Eastwood was allowed to choose whatever profession he wanted, he revealed that his father only had one main piece of advice for him to follow, no matter what.

Clint Eastwood’s advice to his son

The Eastwood family might be filled with some of Hollywood’s elite actors and actresses. However, Clint Eastwood’s son, Scott Eastwood, revealed that his father never pressured him to get into acting. Instead the 94-year-old only wanted him to be the best at whatever he chose to do.

Luckily, the young actor chose to eventually get into films. In an interview with Treats! Magazine via Page Six, the 38-year-old shared the main piece of advice that his strict father gave him when he was young.

He (Clint Eastwood) didn’t care if I was a plumber or if I was an actor. He just said, ‘Whatever you do, do it well. Be humble, work hard and be a man.’

The advice that his famous dad gave Eastwood was simple, yet powerful. In fact, it even guided the star throughout his life and his career. The Gran Torino star explained that he wasn’t initially interested in an acting career. After all, he had seen the rise and fall of many nepo kids.

The young Eastwood explained, “You do a movie, and…it’s like you’re in the cool crowd. But you know it can go away as quickly as it came.” Although he knew both the pros and cons of the trade, the actor eventually decided it was the career for him.

Although the Dirty Harry star chose to give his children the option of choosing their career, once Eastwood decided to step into films, his father was there to guide him through it all. In fact, he was the reason that the young star turned down a sequel to Suicide Squad.

How Clint Eastwood helped Scott Eastwood choose his projects

In 2006, Scott Eastwood debuted his acting skills in his father, Clint Eastwood’s World War II drama Flags of Our Fathers. With the young star being taken under his father’s wing, he was able to experience the best of the film industry. However, some of his projects after that ended up causing a few problems for the star.

In an interview with Insider, the young Eastwood revealed that his father’s advice had led him to turn down the chance to reprise his role as Lt. GQ Edwards in the 2016 film, Suicide Squad. Although the actor fit the part perfectly, a few reasons for him to back out of the film’s sequel came into play.

They didn’t want to pay me any money for those next movies and … they didn’t have another script for the other movie, so I didn’t know what I was going to be signing myself up for.

Luckily for Eastwood, he had his father in his pocket if he ever needed advice. When the star took the situation to the Unforgiven star, his father ended up telling him to go ahead with it if he felt like it was the right choice for him.

The 94-year-old stated, “If it feels like they really need you, and if it’s a good part, then do it. If not, then don’t.” While the young star did not have the answers to those questions, he chose to let the sequel plans slide.

Although Eastwood may have let the iconic franchise go, there could be a chance for fans to see him join another DC role at some point in his career. However, he must feel like it is something he wants to do to take it up.
